BIRDLIFE OVERBERG ROCK-JUMPER TEAM's PLANNING FOR BIRDING BIG DAY 2016

Posted on the 22nd November 2016

Team Rock-jumper consisting of Carin Malan, Ilse Bigalke, Chris Cheetham and Anton Odendal, with Charles Naude as back-up, will again participate in BirdLife South Africa's Birding Big Day on Saturday 26 November. Ilse has to leave at 11h30 as she has an engagement at Langebaan in the evening. This year we will attempt to get to our nearly impossible dream of locating 200 species on the day within the Cape Whale Coast region. We will also participate in the BirdLasser initiative where the progress of more than a hundred teams throughout the country can be followed. We will attempt to keep club members updated with our progress during the day through the BLOBirdNet.

Herewith our provisional schedule for the day:
04h45: Meet at Eastcliff
04h45 to 05h15: Drive to Witkrans
05h15 to 06h30: Witkrans & environs

13h30 to 13h45: Drive back to Gabrielskloof where we consolidate our lists and decide what species we still need to get and which sites we need to visit to be in with a chance of getting to 200 species

Alternative sites to possibly visit during the afternoon are as follows:
Swartrivier road/ Rooiels/ Stony Point/ Harold Porter/ Rooisand/ Arabella Estate/ Meer-en-See/ Hawston Sewage works/ Vermont Salt Pan/ Harderbaai/ Fernkloof
