A well attended public meeting was held at the restaurant of the Waverley Hills Organic Wine Estate outside Wolseley last night. A decision was taken to form a BirdLife South Africa affiliated bird club to serve the towns of Ceres, Wolseley and Tulbagh, as well as the Koue Bokkeveld and the Tankwa Karoo. The Witzenberg region is hugely underrated as a birding destination and the formation of a bird club should contribute significantly to the marketing of the region's top birding hotspots. Several participants volunteered to serve on the committee and this will be properly constituted over the next few weeks. The development of a club birdnet and website is being considered. The first monthly meeting and morning outing will be presented during February. Membership registration has commenced and more comprehensive information on club activities will be released shortly. Provisional enquiries can be forwarded to Anton Odendal at firstname.lastname@example.org or 082 550 3347.
