ROCHER PAN WELL WORTH A VISIT

Posted on the 9th November 2010

Hi all
While conducting a SABAP2 and CWAC training course for Cape Nature staff at Rocher Pan today I picked up a Goliath Heron on one of the centre islands, located directly opposite the reserve offices. Got some pics but not very clear due to poor light! The pan is quite full at the moment and there are lots of waterbirds around, including fairly large flocks of Greater Flamingo and some Black-necked Grebes. Also picked up a Yellow-billed Kite and European Bee-eaters just outside the reserve's entrance. Also lots of Steppe Buzzards on the R27.
Well worth popping in to Rocher if you're heading up Velddrif way...
Regards
Doug Harebottle
