YET ANOTHER HAPPY BRITISH BIRDER IN THE CAPE!

Posted on the 16th June 2012

Hi ALL

I posted a message about two weeks ago asking for advice on where to (finally) see ground Woodpecker. I received ten different personal emails and I have written to everyone personally to say thank you but I wanted to say publicly on this site a BIG THANK YOU to everyone for the kind efforts you went to. I always feel welcome in Cape Town but this reinforced my impressions.

As I had a few messages from people recommending Rooi-els I went and had almost given up after an hour or so of searching and was turning round to head back to the car when a Ground Woodpecker (my first) popped up from the low scrub not 5 metres from me and posed for sketches for about ten minutes!

Flush with that success I went to the southern edge of the Karoo on R355 for the day on 5th and added seven more birds to my life list including Namaqua and Rufous-eared warblers, Pririt Batis and the two dry country chats Tractrac and Karoo.

So a great trip! and thanks for your help.

Graham
