HOW TO FIND INFORMATION ON PARTICULAR BIRDING HOTSPOTS IN THE WESTERN CAPE
Posted on the 2nd August 2013
(We regularly have to answer requests like the one below from local and international birders. I decided to post the request, together with my reaction and references/ links to illustrate how easy it actually is to use the resource. Anton)
I read an article in Africa Birds and Birding October/November 2007 by Anton Odendal about this project. Can you send me information about these routes. I will be visiting Rochepan in September and would appreciate any information with regards to what birds to look for, what time of day, which location and bird guides who are available to do tours.
Thanks for this enquiry. I would recommend that you go to the following link for the Cape West Coast route descriptions:
Look for the "Berg River Local municipal region: Laaiplek and Rocher Pan" in the drop-down menus. Once you had opened this you will find my basic description on the area with GPS references and the like. Underneath that are several other links to trip reports, latest news and so on. This should enable you to do comprehensive planning before visiting that lovely area.
Keep in mind that there are similar ROUTE DESCRIPTIONS for all the district municipal regions in the Western Cape Province available on www.westerncapebirding.co.za
Kindly let me know if this does not help you and we'll make a plan.
