CRUISE TO DYER ISLAND

Posted on the 1st May 2007

DYER ISLAND – On 1 May 2007 we went out to Dyer Island with Wilfred Chivell in view of raising funds for the Penguin nests as our contribution to BLSA's national bird week. (We managed to raise R 4,550-00 for 13 nests). We saw hundreds of Swift Terns carrying anchovies to their chicks on the island and several pairs were performing their spectacular synchronized bonding flights up in the sky. On the previous day Wilfred saw both European and Wilson's Storm-Petrels on their outing to Dyer. The once in a lifetime experience though was seeing a Great White Shark killing and devouring a Cape fur seal within five yards of the boat. Simply awesome!
