Ou Werf is a compact and cosy little cottage on a working farm near Bredasdorp with plenty of farm character. It sits within a lovely open setting on the farm Mierkraal, which in turn lies on the rim of the Heuningberg Mountains. With beautiful views of dam and mountain from just about every angle, it is the perfect get-away for bird-watching enthusiasts. With its picturesque landscapes, this part of the Overberg is a great birding destination with endemic species such as Hottentot Buttonquail, Blue Crane, Black Harrier, Agulhas Long-billed Lark and Orange-breasted Sunbird.

PLATBOS (34°34'03.81”S 19°27'38.78”E) is an ancient indigenous forest situated at the foot of Africa. Described by well-known botanist and author, Professor Eugene Moll, as a "unique South African forest jewel", this is a forest that enchants and inspires all who come to visit. To crown it all Platbos has recently received official Contract Nature Reserve status from CapeNature. Bird-watching at Platbos is simply supurb. Forest associated species are the main attraction with “Western Cape specials” such as OLIVE BUSH-SHRIKE, BLUE-MANTLED CRESTED-FLYCATCHER, TAMBOURINE DOVE and BUFF-SPOTTED FLUFFTAIL being just a few of the species found regularly. Phillipskop Mountain Reserve covers over 246ha on the southerly slopes of the Klein River Mountains just to the east of Stanford in the Western Cape. The reserve protects unique mountain fynbos. Haarwegskloof Renosterveld Reserve represents the largest area of conserved lowland Renosterveld in the Western Cape and is owned by WWF-SA and managed by the Overberg Lowlands Conservation Trust. There are two options for accommodation here: i) a beautiful self-catering guesthouse (3 bedrooms) converted from the farm’s old milking shed and ii) the Renosterveld Research and Visitor Centre for those on a budget. Within this unique vegetation type and surrounding farmlands, several rares and endemics can be seen, including Black Harrier (which also breeds on the reserve), Secretarybird, Denham’s Bustard, Cape Vulture, Karoo and Southern Black Korhaans, Agulhas Long-billed Lark and Blue Crane.
