Some of you might recall that I sent out an email earlier this year about my Masters project in the Overberg.

I am investigating the breeding biology and land use requirements of Agulhas Long-billed Larks. My core area of interest is the region between Protem and Bredasdorp and Swellendam. However, as this is a very tricky species to work with (nests are very cryptic and hard to find) I am throwing the net wider in terms of finding breeding birds.

What I would like to ask is that if any of you encounter adult larks that are obviously breeding (carrying nest material / provisioning etc) please can you let me know? Location and date of course. If you encountered breeding birds in the past and can recall where, that would also be useful information.

I suspect that birds in the western area of the Overberg will be finished breeding this year but those in the eastern region might keep breeding into the summer.

Any other interesting observations of this species would be helpful too! I've spent most of the time between now and August in the Protem / Swellendam / Cloeteskraal area and they are intriguing birds!

If you have any questions, please let me know - happy to call or discuss via email.
