OBITUARY: ROB MARTIN
It is with great sadness that we received the news that Rob passed away peacefully in his sleep last night. Rob Martin was a birder and researcher of note, a mentor to many of us at BirdLife Overberg and a previous chairperson of the Rarities Committee. Rob and Jessie Walton's research on Brown-backed Honeybirds parasitising Karoo Prinias will one day be recognised as ground-breaking work. He was always prepared to assist by providing checklists of many places where he has worked, scrutinise and evaluate text (often tearing it to bits one might add) and give encouragement with many of our schemes and projects.

The South African birding community has lost one of its greatest mentors.

Our thoughts are particularly with Jessie Walton, Carin Malan and Dave Pepler on this sad day.

RIP ROB MARTIN

(Our appreciation to Carin for forwarding these images).
