ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
This web page and the development thereof is dedicated to our dear friend, the late PIETMAN BASSON. He was a BirdLife Overberg member and staunch supporter of our annual golf day fundraising events, as well as Chairman of the Witzenberg Bird Club. Pietman suggested that the development of this web page be considered and did a lot of the initial campaigning that resulted in us meeting so many local people that contributed to this project. We will be forever grateful for him leading us to discover the wonderful bird-watching opportunities (and sites) in the Witzenberg region. The hope is expressed that this web page will contribute significantly to establish the region as a top bird-watching destination – this will be just one of Pietman's many legacies.

Members of BirdLife Overberg have provided the text for these birdfinder descriptions for the Witzenberg region. BirdLife Overberg was formed with the following aims in mind:
-  To allow people in the Overberg with an interest in birds to become involved in bird-watching by participating in the typical activities associated with BirdLife South Africa and its international partners;
-  To place strong emphasis on educational programmes in order to get participants involved in the meaningful conservation of birds and their habitats;
-  To market the Western Cape Province as a top birding destination, thus contributing to the region's already impressive tourism infrastructure.

The members of BirdLife Overberg would like to deeply thank and congratulate the WITZENBERG LOCAL MUNICIPALITY for the wonderful initiative of sponsoring the development of this web page. The hope is sincerely expressed that it will contribute to the further development of the Witzenberg region as one of the premiere bird-watching and eco-tourism destinations in Southern Africa. We would particularly like to express our sincere appreciation to Johan Swanepoel for all the support and guidance given throughout the project.

We are also hugely thankful to CERES FRUIT GROWERS who provided initial seeding funding that enabled us to undertake a preliminary viability study and site visits.
