TWO INTERESTING OBSERVATIONS

On a recent trip, on the road from Beaufort West to Aberdeen, we stopped at a lay-bye and saw two PIED CROWS in the only tree being bombed by a ROCK KESTREL. On the third attempt the Kestrel got the crows to move, and the Vervet Monkey that they had trapped (and we could not see) jumped out of the tree and set off to the next tree - about 400 metres away. The crows attempted to grab him as he ran, but he made it and the crows gave up.

On our return home we discovered that the SOUTHERN DOUBLE-COLLARED SUNBIRD pair had brought their newly fledged baby to learn how to use the sugar water feeder. The baby sat and drank without seeming to care what went on around it. I managed to move slowly to within 1/2 meter before the father flew down and literally knocked the baby off the perch and out of "danger". All in the method of teaching obviously!!
