BIRDING AT PRINS ALBERT

Posted on the 16th May 2009

I participated in the the annual Olive Festival in Prince Albert at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains (1 - 3 May 2009) and took several people for birding. The veld is lush after the recent rains this attracts a lot of birds. The road towards Gamkapoort dam produced displaying Karoo Long-billed Lark, Karoo and Yellow-bellied Eremomela, Black-headed, Yellow & White-throated Canaries, Larklike Bunting, Karoo Korhaans, Kori Bustard, Chat Flycatcher and Cape Penduline Tit. We also found the mousebirds, sparrows and African Black Duck. The road eastwards to the N12 had Redheaded Finch, Red-billed Quelea, Karoo Long-billed Lark, Karoo Chat, Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk and Pririt Batis. The southern Karoo currently very spectacular and birding is very good.
