MIKE BUCKHAM AT PLET AND THE WEST COAST NP

Posted on the 29th April 2011

Dear All

I have been doing some nice birding over the last few days (Easter weekend and public holidays).

Spent some time in Plett at the rather poorly known Plett Sewerage works which is well worth a visit. Some good birds included a pair of Hottentot Teals and a nice party of Lazy Cisticolas near the entrance to the works. It is a bird that I have seen regularly at Nature’s Valley but it seems to have moved a little further west. Also had some nice views of Grey Sunbird in a private estate in Plett.

I have posted a blog and some photos on my website at:

I also managed to get to West Coast National Park yesterday in surprisingly good weather. Not so many waders (quite a few seemed to have departed since Brian van der Walt’s mail the other day) but still some nice breeding plumage birds. Other good birds included Southern Pale Chanting Goshawk at Abrahamskraal and a huge, noisy party of Cape Penduline-tits also at Abrahamskraal. Surprise bird of the day was a small flock of Common Swifts.

I have posted a blog and some pictures of this trip at:

Regards

Mike Buckham
