AFRICAN PALM-SWIFTS ALONG THE GARDEN ROUTE

Posted on the 26th May 2014

Last Thursday I finished a medical appointment at 1730 near the Mediclinic.
There were at least 5, probably more as I did not have time to watch for very long, Palm Swifts flying into the skirts of the palm trees outside the clinic.
I would have expected them to have migrated north for the winter by now, but perhaps they do not do so.
Anyone near the colonies at Wilderness Hotel or Knysna Station in the late evening should look out for Palm Swifts returning to roost in the palm trees – perhaps they do not migrate but because they are not seen near the trees during the day they are not recorded.
