TAMODI LODGE AND STABLES, THE CRAGS

Article Contact details

Tamodi Lodge and Stables was created by Lynne and Owen Johnston, their inspiration born out of love for horses and the beautiful valleys of the Crags. This passion is reflected in the carefully designed main house and stable buildings which blend with the bush and natural environment. The setting is peaceful and relaxing, offering 4 luxury suites. They overlook a beautiful indigenous forest valley and the Tsitsikamma mountains.

The property forms part of a natural conservancy area and is also a working equestrian farm with a riding school. There are unfenced dams and and rimflow pool. There is a guided hiking trail, two bird decks on the farm and mountain biking close by with Keurbooms beaches only 3 min away. It is an ideal venue to be away from the hive of activity in Plett, but close enough to enjoy when you feel the need.

Two standard suites are luxuriously appointed with underfloor heating, heated towel rail, safe, DSTV, WIFI internet and balcony. Both overlook the Tsitsikamma mountains and a beautiful indigenous forest valley. Two main honeymoon suites are very spaceous with walkin cupboard and further offer a bar fridge, outdoor shower and airconditioner.

We do not recommend children under 10 but on application we can make arrangements if the guest takes the whole guest house.

Tamodi provides a full country breakfast but lunch and dinner can be enjoyed at any of the fine restaurants in Plettenberg Bay. The closest [3 min away] is at Keurboomstrand , overlooking the bay.

Bird-watching at Tamodi is great. The common species that visiting birders would easily be able to identify include BAR-THROATED APALIS, CAPE BATIS, SOUTHERN BOUBOU, BLACK-HEADED ORIOLE, SWEE WAXBILL and CAPE WHITE-EYE. Many sunbird species occur of which AMETHYST, GREY and COLLARED SUNBIRDS are of interest in a regional sense. Other common species that would excite visiting birders include FOREST CANARY, LEMON and TAMBOURINE DOVES, BLACK-BACKED PUFFBACK, CHORISTER ROBIN-CHAT and KNYSNA TURACO. Often difficult species to spot and photograph are TERRESTRIAL BROWNBUL, GREEN-BACKED CAMEROPTERA, BLUE-MANTLED CRESTED-FLYCATCHER, GREY CUCKOOSHRIKE, WHITE-STARRED ROBIN, NARINA TROGON, KNYSNA WARBLER and YELLOW-THROATED WOODLAND-WARBLER. The birds of prey found here should also not be underestimated as FOREST and JACKAL BUZZARDS, AFRICAN CROWNED EAGLE, AFRICAN GOSHAWK, AFRICAN CUCKOO HAWK and BLACK SPARROWHAWK are encountered fairly regularly. At night one is often treated to the beautiful calls of AFRICAN WOOD-OWL. To this should be added that most of the waterbirds in the regions are regularly on view on the dams on the farm.

Tamodi is ideally situated to be be used as base from which to explore the top birding destinations of Plettenberg Bay and Nature's Valley. Tamodi offers outstanding bird-watching in a peaceful setting with luxurious accommodation.
