INTAKA ISLAND
This 16 ha reserve lies in the heart of Century City and beside the Canal Walk shopping mall. Easily accessed off the N1 and signposted off Century Boulevard. Marked trails and two hides make close up viewing and photography of water birds possible

RIETVLEI, MILNERTON LAGOON AND "DOLPHIN BEACH" PANS (IBA)
Situated beside the R27 coastal road and 15 km from the city centre. One bird hide with views onto seasonal pans. Seasonally good for flamingos and migratory shore birds. Wilson’s Phalarope was a recent vagrant visitor at the “Dolphin Beach” Pans.

SPECIALS: Caspian and Swift Terns, White Pelican, Little Stint

KOEBERG NATURE RESERVE (Nearly 200 species)
Accessed off the R27 and adjacent to the nuclear power station. It contains some of the last remaining strandveld habitats along the West Coast and it supports various wetlands.

SPECIALS: Black-crowned Night-Heron, Southern Pochard, Maccoa Duck, Cape Bulbul, Wattled Starling

ATLANTIS SEWERAGE WORKS
Currently being developed as a birding destination

SILWERSTROOMSTRAND
Signposted west of the R27 and includes prime strandveld habitats. One of the best spots of this habitat type close to Cape Town where terrestrial species could be studied safely along the roadside.

SPECIALS: Karoo Lark, Chestnut-vented and Layard’s Tit-Babblers, White-throated Canary, Hottentot Buttonquail.
