BIRDLIFE OVERBERG PROVISIONAL SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR 2020

Happening from the 15th January 2020 to 5th December 2020

The provisional dates for BirdLife Overberg events during 2020 are announced herewith. Details of specific events will be added as these are finalised and the monthly coastal clean-ups and weekends outings also still need to be finalised and added.

Saturday 18 January: The annual "red flower" morning outing to Rooiels and the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens

Monday 20 January: Monthly talk – Dr Alistair Mc Innes, the manager of BirdLife South Africa’s coastal bird conservation division, will talk on latest developments on African Penguins and other species

Saturday 25 January: Monthly Coastal Clean-up at the Hoek van de Berg Nature Reserve section 1

28 & 29 January: Birding blitz at Barry House at Riverton Stud in the Robertson district

1 & 2 February: The Flight Higher course at Robertson

4 & 5 February: Birding blitz at Barry House at Riverton Stud in the Robertson district

Saturday 8 February: Quarterly CWAC counts along the various estuaries of the Cape Whale Coast

Monday 10 February: BirdLife Overberg Annual General Meeting

15 & 16 February: Flight Higher course at the Drostdy Museum in Swellendam

Saturday 29 February: Monthly Coastal Clean-up at the Hoek van de Berg Nature Reserve section 2

Monday 9 March: Monthly talk - Carin Malan illustratates a tour of birding opportunities in the Karoo and the Drakensberg and Wakkerstroom regions

18 & 19 June: The Flight for Birders identification and conservation course at the Swellendam Winter School

Saturday 27 June: Monthly Coastal Clean-up at the Hoek van de Berg Nature Reserve section 2

Saturday 4 July: Quarterly CWAC counts along the various estuaries of the Cape Whale Coast

Saturday 11 July: Morning outing

Saturday 18 July: Monthly Coastal Clean-up at the Hoek van de Berg Nature Reserve section 3

Saturday 25 July: The annual Xmas in July fundraising dinner with Mark Anderson, the CEO of BirdLife South Africa as guest speaker

11 & 12 August: The Flight for Birders identification and conservation course at the Swellendam Winter School

Saturday 15 August: Morning outing, possibly to the Greyton district to coincide with canola season

Monday 17 August: Monthly talk

Saturday 22 August: Monthly Coastal Clean-up along the Vermont coastline

5 & 6 September: The annual specialist birding course, this time on Birds of Prey to coincide with International Vulture Awareness Day on 5 September

Saturday 12 September: International Recycling and Coastal Clean-up Day

Saturday 26 September: Monthly Coastal Clean-up at the Hoek van de Berg Nature Reserve section 1
