BIRDLIFE OVERBERG QUARTERLY BIG BIRD COUNT ON 4 MAY
Happening on the 4th May 2019
GLOBAL BIG COUNT DAY ON 4 MAY 2019
We will again do our quarterly big count in the various regions of the Overberg – this will be the 9th one. Remember that we try to establish how species diversity changes through different seasons throughout our region. We do this according to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s model for global big bird counts which is done on 4 May this year. You can read more about the count during May 2018 at this link:
You can therefore pick and choose on where you want to participate – just confirm your participation with the co-ordinator. Here are some of the co-ordinators who had confirmed participation at this stage: Anton (082 550 3347) from Onrus to Karwyderskraal, Jenny (083 448 2467) from Kleinmond to Rooiels, Steve (081 817 3223) in the Napier district and Riaan (082 373 8270) in the greater Gansbaai area. We are still in need of members to assist us with counts in the central Hermanus area - Fernkloof, Prawn Flats, cliff path, etc. Please consider helping us as co-ordinator in that area as we have most of the other areas in our region covered.
Kindly join us for this fun day and let us see how many species we can contribute to the global count this year - last year Cornell University logged more than 7,000 species worldwide!. Don’t forget to bring your friends and potential newcomers along.
