BIRDLIFE OVERBERG WEEKEND OUTING TO THE GOURIKWA RESERVE, GOURITZ RIVER REGION
Happening from the 14th September 2018 to 17th September 2018
We have made a reservation for a weekend outing to the Gourikwa Reserve between Stilbaai and Gourits. This is arriving on Friday 14 September and departing Monday 17 September.
We presented course at Boggomsbaai two weeks ago and this enabled us to check out the area. The Gourikwa Reserve looks outstanding and we propose that we investigate the Stilbaai region on the one dat (and go and feed the eels) and then visit Langvlei and Voelvlei on the other day. This should make for awesome birding.
The reserve features coastal species, together with most of the bird species normally expected in coastal brush and Fynbos, renosterveld and wheatfield habitats. It is also in close proximity to several top birding spots Stilbaai, Gourits and Mossel Bay, and we have made the reservation for September in the hope that both Langvlei and Voёlvlei will have water. These two spots are generally seen as being as good for waterbirds and waders as De Mond and the Langebaan lagoon.
