BIRDLIFE OVERBERG COASTAL CLEANUP AT THE ONRUS BEACH
Happening on the 12th May 2018
BIRDLIFE OVERBERG MONTHLY COASTAL CLEANUP ON SATURDAY 12 MAY
Are you concerned about the impact of plastics and other marine debris on our oceans and shoreline? Do you care about the detrimental impact that this has on our coastal birds and other marine creatures? Then we would like to invite you to take part in BirdLife Overberg’s regular monthly Coastal Cleanups along the beautiful Cape Whale Coast shoreline. You might get your hands a bit dirty, but the satisfaction of contributing towards clean oceans and plastic-free beaches certainly makes up for this. We already have several volunteers, as well as school groups assisting us on these cleanups and we can certainly make use of more participants. All ages welcome – if you don’t like bending down you can complete the forms of litter collected. One comes across plastic and litter along our coast all too often and this is an opportunity for nature lovers to give something back. We are excited about more people joining our efforts as we clean up our shoreline and make a real difference!
Join us on our next cleanup on Saturday 12 May as we clean along the beach at Onrus towards Sandbaai. This is being done in collaboration with the Milkwood restaurant and the children from the Recycle Swop Shop will again be joining us.
We will meet 08:00 at the parking area at the Onrus beach. Elaine and Helé will give a brief overview of our project and the research behind it. We will be done by 11:00 at the latest.
WHAT TO BRING ALONG: A portion of the walk is on rocks so appropriate walking shoes will be needed, it can get a bit slippery. Bring a backpack with something to drink and eat and remember your sun hat and sun screen. Rubbish bags will be supplied for collecting the trash.
CONFIRM YOUR PARTICIPATION BY THURSDAY 10 MAY AT 18:00: Contact Elaine at email@example.com or sms at 082 455 8402 or Helé at firstname.lastname@example.org or sms at 073 456 0393.
