HOW TO UNTANGLE A BIRD FROM A HOOK

Posted on the 7th July 2011

We have been getting quite a few reports of fishermen leaving seabirds with hooks and line trailing from them. This is possibly due to lack of education on how to properly handle these birds or being afraid of getting injured by their sharp beaks. In an attempt to try to prevent future incidents and educate the fishermen, we have created a cartoon which we hope to spread as far as possible through various forums, websites and clubs. It shows very simply how to handle a live bird with a hook in it, and if done properly will result in the birds escaping without much injury. So attached please find this fun and illustrative cartoon. Please distribute to anyone you think it may be of use to! So far we have had very positive feedback from this cartoon.

Kind regards,
