BIODIVERSITY MANAGEMENT PLANS FOR CRANES

Posted on the 14th February 2011

As was discussed at the 2010 EWT-African Crane Conservation Programme’s AGM held at Kasoega in the Eastern Cape, we will be developing Biodiversity Management Plans for Species (BMP-S) for each of the three South African crane species (Blue, Grey Crowned and Wattled Cranes). Please note that the “Norms and Standards for Biodiversity Management Plans for Species” has been outlined by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism Gazette no. R. 214 on 3 March 2009, and falls within the National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (Act 10 of 2004).

Over the next few months, we will be using this email distribution list periodically to share information on our progress in this regard and also to offer you the opportunity to get involved and provide input. Please note though that a workshop to develop the crane BMP-S’s will be held in the week of 25 – 29 July in the grasslands of KwaZulu-Natal.  The exact dates within this week, and the exact location will be confirmed in the  near future. Also, the Annual Meeting of the EWT-ACCP will be held alongside this workshop.

Please diarise these dates now. We do hope that you will all be able to attend the workshop and / or provide input into this important process.

Kind regards

Kerryn
